EDUCATION

WE NEED TO EDUCATE

Know Your Hairitage™’s unique approach to diversity and inclusion centers around beauty traditions and education. Various studies identify education and self-awareness as a key component in child development.  When children are confident and know their foundation, they tend to do better in school and approach the world as leaders. By educating ourselves about the history and beauty practices of various ethnic groups, we seek to build cultural awareness, spark appreciation for differences and develop a deeper understanding of our neighbors-We are active participants in the movement toward inclusivity and global healing.

Why Hairitage?

Hairitage is a range of traditions, objects, styles relating to hair that are passed down from a predecessor or ancestor. The Know Your Hairitage™ team believes that everyone has beauty practices and traditions that have been passed down or influenced by a family member or identified ethnic group. In many communities, hair traditions define age, political, marital, social status and geographic origin among other identifiers. Hair education is not limited to what styles are trending. Hair history can is also a great way to approach K-12 education and can be used to examine history, politics, science and anthropology. Understanding the origins of indigenous hairstyles is also an opportunity to amplify vocational education and bring more meaning to the art of cosmetology.
