KNOW YOUR HAIRITAGE
BOOK SERIES

The Know Your Hairitage ™ Book series is a collection of children’s books (ages 5-9) that celebrates global cultural hair traditions. This beautifully illustrated series was designed to empower, educate and uplift children and adults with heritage by way of “hairitage.”

Author Zenda Walker, a licensed cosmetologist, has always viewed the world through beauty and fashion. Growing up, wash day was a rite of passage and a bonding ritual with her twin sister and mother. She later found many Black friends and clients shared these traditions, while others carried hair rituals tied to their ancestry.

When Zenda began sharing the cultural meaning of hair with her daughter during wash days, she saw a shift—greater confidence, stronger resilience, and improved grades. She also found boys with textured hair faced similar insecurities. Exploring hair stories, she realized, helps children build identity, cultural connection, and critical thinking.

Know Your Hairitage™ believes that understanding each other brings us closer to a more inclusive world. Education is key.
